Our Values & Culture
Health, Safety & Wellbeing
The safety, health and wellbeing of all who may be affected by our operations and activities is our top priority. We provide all our employees with safe plant and safe systems of work; sufficient information, instruction, training and supervision; a safe working environment; and adequate facilities and arrangements for their welfare at work. All working activities are covered by the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989.
At ROK, the safety and well-being of every individual is our utmost priority. Nothing matters more to us than ensuring that everyone returns home safely, every single day. We are raising the bar on Health and Safety through several initiatives including our behavioural safety campaign ‘Home Safe’, making five-point PPE mandatory on all sites, training mental health first aiders, workforce health testing and our commitment to Behavioural Safety Leadership. We are fully committed to protecting our workforce and all those affected by our work, and we remain steadfast in our pursuit of ensuring everyone returns Home Safe.
All employees working on Rok building sites carry a Jersey Safety Awareness Test (JSAT) card, which they received after successfully completing the online test. JSAT can assist employers in complying with the general duties placed on them under Articles 3 and 5 of the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989 and the Health and Safety (Management in Construction) (Jersey) Regulations 2016.
Rok is Contractors Health & Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) accredited, having achieved the scheme’s standards for health and safety and risk management.
Ethical and professional business practice
As Jersey’s leading and biggest construction company, Rok is respected for conducting its business in an ethical and professional manner and being a role model for Jersey’s construction industry.

Rok is a member of the Jersey Construction Council and contributes to collectively maintaining a strong, healthy local construction industry.
Community
Rok is committed to creating a positive contribution to the local community – volunteering our time, skills and industry insights; donating funds and staying connected with the needs of local not-for-profit organisations, including educational bodies, industry bodies, charities other stakeholders/interest groups. Our contributions to the community follow a few key themes: Education, skills and employment; Mental health and wellbeing; Sport and active lifestyles; and Diversity, equality and inclusion. In its third year, the collaboration between ROK and Hautlieu School, as well as the wider island's DEC programme, continues to thrive and make a significant impact thanks to the visionary leadership of Richard De Gruchy (ROK) and Simon Forestiero (Hautlieu School).
We’re thrilled that the partnership between ROK and Hautlieu School has been named the DEC Partnership Award winner in 2024.
In 2019, Rok was awarded charter status by The Jersey Good Business Charter which seeks to highlight, celebrate and encourage Jersey businesses to build a better community and better world – striving towards a model of sustainability via the triple bottom line: People, planet and prosperity.
Wherever the Considerate Constructors logo is visible on a Rok building site, the project is registered under the scheme’s code of considerate practice, which encourages best practice beyond statutory requirements in the areas of: Respecting the Community, caring for the Environment and valuing the Workforce.
Diversity, Equality and Inclusion
Rok is dedicated to encouraging a supportive and inclusive workplace and culture. Our employee recruitment, development and renumeration practices and decisions are based on ability. We are opposed to any form of unlawful discrimination, in line with The Discrimination (Jersey) Law 2013, on the grounds of race; age; gender; sexual orientation; gender re-assignment; pregnancy, maternity and paternity; and disability.
Rok sponsored the launch of the Jersey branch of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), which is a networking and knowledge sharing platform with a view to encouraging greater diversity within the industry. Rok employees also volunteer on the NAWIC Jersey Committee.
Rok completed the Eyecan assessment and training in 2019 and was awarded accreditation following its compliance with all the recommendations to make our offices suitable for the vision impaired.
Sustainability
As an Eco Active member business Rok complies with local environmental legislation requirements and is committed to minimising the environmental impacts of its business by improving efficiencies, reducing running costs, preventing waste and reducing the risk of pollution.
