DEC in Jersey - End of Year Report
The end of year school report is in (see video below): In the first academic year of the Design Engineer Construct! (DEC) course at Haultieu School, the Our Hospital Project (OHP) team contributed 50 hours of classroom industry interventions - inspiring Jersey's youngsters to pursue a career in the built environment, bridging the skills gap on Island and encouraging greater gender diversity within the industry.
Hautlieu’s DEC! Teacher, Simon Forestiero: “The wealth of specialist industry knowledge the OHP team have given me and the students across the built environment sector is without doubt a huge benefit, and the bespoke support to students at the right time that matches the curriculum is unlike any other subject. The interaction has provided the students with an opportunity to understand different careers and improve the standard of their portfolio of work which will certainly yield them higher grades"
OHP’s Legacy Director, Richard de Gruchy: “I continue to be proud of OHP team's contribution to the DEC! course at Hautlieu, and I have seen first-hand the benefits and purpose of delivering DEC! and therefore know that we are truly making a positive difference to people and the planet. Because of the course's industry adopter link and the commitment of subject matter professionals, we can provide students with a richer and a more accurate and current picture of the industry; interact and intervene early in their vocational education years; and prepare them for an rewarding and stimulating world of work."
All those involved in the first year of DEC! in Jersey have found the experience rewarding and unique in education - we would encourage more professionals, schools and students to participate in DEC!
