Hautlieu DEC students visit Rok site - IFC6
On this wet and windy Monday, 36 students and four staff from Hautlieu School visited the Rok site of International Finance Centre 6 (IFC6). Upon completion in November 2023, IFC6 will be a Super-Prime Grade A building, offering 63,000 square feet of environmentally sustainable office space, with ample natural light flooding in through the four facades of floor-to-ceiling windows.
The group was a mix of Year 10s and Year 12s who are studying the Design Engineer Construct! (DEC) at Hautlieu School, of which Rok is an industry supporter. The group was divided into two smaller groups, which took turns at being shown around the site by Project Manager, Steven McLachlan, and listening to a briefing in the site office by Project Director, Marc Godel.
Marc gave the group an overview of the project, including a time-lapse video of the build progress thus far. He went into some detail on the bespoke materials that a high-spec build like this one demands, which has seen him travel to Italy to oversee product testing and work with specialists, e.g., a metallurgist, to ensure that the feature frames deliver the high-end finish sought by designer and client, as well as withstand the effects of Jersey's coastal environment.
Marc then went on to explain the various roles involved on a construction project of this nature and size, and he related it back to his own career progression - starting with his studies at Highlands College.
Prior to working on IFC6, Marc has worked on several projects, including a large office build in St Helier, for the finance firm, Aztec. A few years on, Aztec has continued to grow rapidly and will be looking forward to moving to IFC6, which will be the new hub of its international business of 1,400 employees, across six jurisdictions.
