Les Quennevais DEC students visit Rok site - IFC6

This morning, Rok welcomed a new cohort of Year 10 Design Engineer Construct! (DEC) students from Les Quennevais School to the construction site of International Finance Centre 6.

The group of 14 students, in which the girls outnumbered the boys, were keen to learn all about land surveys and site investigations. For example, they heard from the Project Director, Marc Godel, about the considerations of building on reclaimed land for this particular project.

The students were then able to put some of their learning into practice by using land surveying equipment, known as a total station. The total station combines the modern theodolite (often seen on a tripod, used to conduct topographical surveys) with the functions of an auto-level and electronic distance meter. By sending out laser pulses, total stations can record more accurate information over longer distances than a theodolite. As the data is stored electronically in a total station, it can be easily transferred to a computer for further analysis.

Rok are proud to be the industry adopter of the DEC programme at Les Quennevais School - providing the students the opportunity to take bridge their classroom learning with the world of working in the industry.
