Rok celebrates greater diversity in future of construction
As the new academic year starts today, Rok are proud to share the news that over half of the students starting their Design Engineer Construct (DEC) course at Les Quennevais School are female.
Rok is the industry adopter and sponsor of the DEC course at Les Quennevais School (LQS).
During the first year of DEC! in Jersey, Rok have had the pleasure of working with LQS staff and students on several occasions:
1. November 2021: Youth engagement design competition
2. February 2022: Site visit to Jersey's largest residential project, Horizon on the Waterfront - organised by their DEC! industry adopter firm, RokLimited
3. March 2022: RokFCC JV's Legacy Director, Richard De Gruchy, delivered a presentation on the roles, responsibilities and relationship dynamics on a large construction project such as Our Hospital Project, on which RokFCC JV is the Design & Delivery Partner
4. May 2022: Rok sponsored the launch of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) in Jersey and invited DEC teachers from Hautlieu and Les Quennevais schools
5. June 2022: Rok Project Director, Marc Godel, gave DEC Y10 students at Les Quennevais feedback on their BIM models
Head of DEC at LQS, Katie Ferreira is passionate about her subject and inspiring more students to join: “DEC is an exciting and innovative course that teaches young people about the built environment. It promotes strong cross curricular links with subjects such as Maths, Science and IT as well as educating about relevant issues such as climate change and encouraging sustainability. Students studying DEC are also frequently supported by industry professionals, to bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world and get a first-hand experience of what a range of construction jobs, such as Structural Engineering and Project Management, look like in action.”
Rok are proud to be part of the change that nurtures greater diversity in the future of the construction industry.
